Let’s face it, the very thought of confronting credit card debt head-on can be scary.

However the fact that you are perusing this article demonstrates that you’re ready to confront the problem head-on and work out a solution for eliminating outstanding credit card debt. And that is a major step in the right direction, as doing so distinguishes you from so many others that do nothing other than pay the minimum every month or worse, those who continue to rack up more debt as they dig themselves deeper and deeper into a pit of debt and despair that will eventually collapse upon them.

I know it’s scary confronting huge credit card debt, but you are not alone in all of this and no matter what, that debt is not going to simply “go away” on its own. Credit card debt is the 800 lb gorilla lurking in the closets of many of us and it is going to have to be dealt with and the sooner the better.

For those of us that are carrying huge amounts of credit card debt, it is time to wake up, smell the coffee and realize that one will never be free of debt if they continue doing those things that got them into this mess in the first place!

Not only can oppressive levels of debt sap one’s energy and keep them awake at night and it can make us sick worry and wondering if we will ever get out from under it all.

Well, guess what?

You can, it just takes time, patience and a bit of self-discipline.

Here’s an approach that can help anyone get rid of credit card debt faster.

Take a look at all of your credit cards with outstanding balances and determine which card has the lowest outstanding balance, the determine the next lowest balance and so forth.

Each month, pay as much as you can ABOVE the minimum payment amount on the lowest balance credit card. This in an effort to get the card balance paid off as quickly as possible.

Once the first credit card balance is paid off, repeat the process with the next lowest balance credit card but with this one include with your regular payment the amount that you were previously applying to the now paid off credit card.

When the second credit card balance is paid off, repeat the process with any subsequent credit cards including in each month’s payment amount what you previously paid on the now paid off first, second and subsequent credit cards.

In addition, throughout the process apply any “extra money” you might have at the time to reducing the current lowest credit card balance.

As you apply what you were previously applying to now paid off balances to your current outstanding credit card balances, you’ll be amazed at how much quicker you will get these account balances paid off. This owes to the fact that you will be paying on the balance each month, rather than only on the interest, as is the case when paying the minimum each month.

And of course while confronting credit card debt head-on, the last thing you should be doing is celebrating by going on a spending spree with your credit cards!

And while there will be a temptation to “blow” the money that you previously used each month to pay down the balances on now paid off accounts, the above scenario collapses if you do so. The heart of this technique is funneling that money into nothing other than paying down still existing credit card debt.

Once you have paid off ALL of your credit card balances, then you can and should celebrate by treating yourself to something really nice.

Just make sure you do it using CASH!!!!
